First quarter campaign filings are in from all the GOP gubernatorial campaigns.
It sets the stage for a pretty even money race between Congressman Gresham Barrett, Lt. Gov. André Bauer, and Attorney General Henry McMaster.
The most interesting number comes from state Rep. Nikki Haley. Haley has been easily outspent by her opponents and each raised more than twice what she did in the first quarter.
Of the support she's found, a lot of it is coming from outside of the state. Small online donations have flooded Haley's coffers. Nearly one of every four dollars her campaign has received has come from outside of South Carolina.
Out of state checks account for 24 percent of her total haul this quarter, compared with 12 percent for McMaster, 14 percent for Barrett, and 16 percent for Bauer.
Other noteworthy contributions:
• The Magnolia development and lead developer Robert Clement III donated a combined $4,500 to the Barrett campaign.
• Former state Treasurer Thomas Ravenel donated another $2,000 to the Bauer campaign.
This post previously listed an erroneous $300 donation from SEWE LLC to McMaster's campaign. That was an error on McMaster's quarterly campaign filing report and should have been listed as a donation to the Attorney General's office in the form of event tickets.
