And you thought your were evil for lusting after Brad Pitt and/or Angelina Jolie. Honey, turns out your going to hell for just being your New-York-Times-loving, Prius-driving, hippie-adjacent self.
The Rev. Jay Scott Newman said Thursday church law doesn't allow him to refuse parishioners the sacrament at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville. But he said his congregants shouldn't take Communion until they do penance for supporting "the most radical pro-abortion politician ever to serve in the United States Senate or to run for president."
hippie-adjacent: a person who is friends with hippies, agrees philosophically with hippies, but just can't stomach any Grateful Dead beyond "Uncle John's Band."

Mixing religion with politics. The Catholic church should be taxed! I am catholic and and I voted for Obama. Even the oldest US voter, who is a nun, voted for Obama. Some priests are just plain WRONG. Like those who molested boys. Rev Jay Scott Newman is just as wrong as the long line of "holy" men before him who have bedeviled good christians through the ages. He should ask for forgiveness for his letter.

Rest assured Rev. Newman, I will be forwarding this letter to the IRS tomorrow evening for their review, along with appropriate documentation.

Father Newman is correct, when a sin against God is commited then reconcilation is necessary. If you do not believe that the Catholic Church has the right to lead us in matters of faith and morals you should go somewhere else. Cafeteria Catholics think they can pick and choose, God will be the ultimate judge. I admire you for your courage Father and wish more priests would follow your example.

"Cafeteria Catholics"? Wow. People like you and the priest are why I left the catholic church. You're all just way too quick to finish God's sentences for him. I wonder what he did before you guys came along?

Statement of Monsignor Martin T. Laughlin Administrator of the Diocese of Charleston CHARLESTON, S.C. (November 14, 2008) - This past week, the Catholic Church’s clear, moral teaching on the evil of abortion has been pulled into the partisan political arena. The recent comments of Father Jay Scott Newman, pastor of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenville, S.C., have diverted the focus from the Church’s clear position against abortion. As Administrator of the Diocese of Charleston, let me state with clarity that Father Newman’s statements do not adequately reflect the Catholic Church’s teachings. Any comments or statements to the contrary are repudiated. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states, “Man has the right to act in conscience and in freedom so as personally to make moral decisions.” The Catechism goes on to state: “In the formation of conscience the Word of God is the light for our path; we must assimilate it in faith and prayer and put it into practice. We must also examine our conscience before the Lord’s Cross. We are assisted by the gifts of the Holy Spirit, aided by the witness or advice of others and guided by the authoritative teaching of the Church.” Christ gives us freedom to explore our own conscience and to make our own decisions while adhering to the law of God and the teachings of the faith. Therefore, if a person has formed his or her conscience well, he or she should not be denied Communion, nor be told to go to confession before receiving Communion. The pulpit is reserved for the Word of God. Sometimes God’s truth, as is the Church’s teaching on abortion, is unpopular. All Catholics must be aware of and follow the teachings of the Church. We should all come together to support the President-elect and all elected officials with a view to influencing policy in favor of the protection of the unborn child. Let us pray for them and ask God to guide them as they take the mantle of leadership on January 20, 2009. I ask also for your continued prayers for me and for the Diocese of Charleston.

I'm a Catholic and I voted for Obama, so let's make a deal. I'll abstain from Holy Communion this Sunday, and the RCC can abstain from asking me for money. Deal?

It is the Catholic Church itself that is behaving like "Cafeteria Catholics." For several national elections in a row, various priests and bishops have warned pro-choice Catholic politicians that they would not be welcome to participate in communion at "their" Catholic churches. All this at the same time Pope John Paul II was giving regular personal communion to the mayor of Rome, a well-known pro-choice politician. And never a peep from any of these fundamentalist catholics regarding whether Catholic politicians who favor the death penalty should be kept from participating in communion. So this is just like so many moral questions of the day where the Catholic Church has come up woefully short. It would be funny, if it were not so sad.

This is one time when I agree with a priest. Father Newman is correct and I commend him for speaking out. Martin T. Laughlin is wrong.

The Roman Catholic Church is a foreign power. The Holy See has a Head of State, the Pope. The State of Vatican City is a separate and sovereign entity with a Head of State, the Pope. The Pope is the head of two separate and sovereign entities The Roman Priests represent this FOREIGN POWER. The Priests of Rome rape children and are involved in manipulating the voters of the sovereign country of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. These Roman bastards are evil and should be driven out of America. The priests of Rome are a 5th column in the U.S.A. They are EVIL and they represent a FOREIGN POWER, WAKE UP!
