The peninsula's Sanders Clyde Elementary School has been selected as one of five South Carolina schools to be nominated for the National Blue Ribbon Award. Nominees are schools that have excelled at educating disadvantaged students.

Meanwhile, Charleston County's Academic Magnet High School has been selected by U.S. News and Worlds Reports as one of America's Best High Schools. It was the only one in the state to make the top 100 "gold" list.
