Sneak Peek at Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows

Forget that Potter movie, that was sooo yesterday. I just got back from a quick visit to the downtown library to get the very first look at Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the absolutely first, last book in the Harry Potter saga (author J.K. Rowling is hedging her bet on whether she’ll return to Hogwarts for another round in the distant future).
The boxes state very clearly, “Do Not Open Until July 21,” but the library received special permission to break them open early for cataloging and such. What happens to Harry? What happens to Voldemort? What happens to the crowds of people that haven’t picked up a book in 10 years that didn’t have an awkward boy wizard on the cover? Well, I may very well have been able to get the answer to at least two of those questions, but they’re keeping a sharp eye on the books.
“The branch libraries must keep the books in a secure environment,” according to special instructions on the billing slip (unheard of, except for the Potter books and the last volume of Lemony Snicket). “At no time may the books be handled for any reason other than to process the book for shelving and may not be displayed until 7/21.”
Apparently some people can wait for Christmas Day, or Pottermas Day in this case. Julie Thompson, head of the library’s acquisitions department, has read the other six books, but she says she has no desire to sneak a peek — and she was very nice, so we’ll say we believe her. She said she’s already ordered her own copy that she’ll get it on the 21st, the same as everybody else, and I guess we can see the excitement in waiting.
But for those who can’t wait, don’t even think about a Mission: Impossible type trip to the library. They’ll be locking the books up this afternoon to “get rid of the temptation for staff members,” Thompson said.
While a Saturday release may be good for booksellers, it’s awkward for library staff, who will be working odd hours to make sure that the books will be available Saturday morning for those folks who have placed them on hold. That’s right. The library will have 160 copies and already has more than 200 holds, so if you’re looking to get your Potter book at your local branch, good luck. But Thompson did note that the hold list is down from past Potter books.
“I think most people want to buy this one,” she said.
Or maybe they're waiting for the movie.
UPDATE: There may be spoilers in the comments to this post. Or they may just be the ramblings of the village idiot. Either way, it's best to be cautious unless you don't care either way.

I think Deathly Hallows is going to cause an uproar within the fans' community, because even if Harry lives, that is not all the fans need. We need Hermione and Ron, McGonagall and all the others ... Lupin and everyone else ... already half-mourning because of (spoiler alert) Dumbledore's passing away ... or murder ... even if Harry lives and Hermione or Ron dies, JKR will recieve hate mail for at least five months before we learn to forgive her. I hope she doesn't do a Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and bring them back! That would be fake! *wink*

i just can not for the last harry potter film coz i think it just gonna shock everyone and break some hearts. all i care is about lord you know who will die(im quite sure he will).anyways we just have to wait i love harry potter films esp. the 3rd one was great beta than 1st 2nd and 4th. no offence but

i work at a library, and i didnt know that the books were in...i think they're at the HQ for my library..which is good cuz i would be really tempted to find out whats gonna happen..im glad i dont work that saturday cuz its gonna be hectic

I volunteer in a library which currently has 200 DH books ordered with over 1900 holds on them. Likewise for me, I've heard rumors of the books arrival... unfortunately for my local library, we're all fanatics. We just had a Harry Potter Party yesterday. >_

the world will be at ends on that day...not even, the night before will also be hectic with all the deep harry potter fans who will want to get their hands on that book the moment its available. If i were a librarian the temptation would be too much!!!lol

well, the first books are out of the box, so watch out for spoilers from now on,I guess. I don't think librarians will post spoilers, but there only has to be one that takes a peak and posts it on mugglenet somewhere. Thank god for their spoiler policy!

RIB edition has probably got to do with it being the Regular Edition instead of the Super-Special Extended Edition. I'm sure they need to differentiate between the two, as the latter is worth more and is having fewer editions printed.

I think it's RLB not RIB, and I suspect it has to do with being a book with a special library binding. Those books really take a beating, and I think library editions are reinforced. Maybe Reinforced Library Binding?

Harry is dying in this movie so as voldremort i am the head of the library and i have already read the book i booked coz itz already mine ...so it doesnt really make a difference if i take my book at an earlier date...Lupin dies and Ron and hermione tooo....sorrrrrrrrry for giving u the details

I heard that (Spoiler spoiler spoiler) one of the trio will die in this book. I'm sure it won't be Harry, because he can't be "The Boy Who Lived....For 17 Years....And Then Died...". I think Hermione will die, because Ron has never had the chance to be a hero. Of course this would cause an outrage in the Harry Potter community, but Jo has never been one to stray away from unpopular deaths. I think Hermione will do something really loyal and die for her friends, but I guess we'll find out on the 21st!
