Bless their heart. Reckless is still going with its sexy theme. And this time they jumped right in … to the sack. Jamie and Preston opened Sunday's episode by becoming boyfriend and girlfriend. But after the sultry opening, Reckless let sex take the backseat, and this time the show focused on the a court case — it really is a sultry legal drama.

The court room antics didn’t enthrall like they do on The Good Wife, but it did provide the opportunity to help develop some characters. Roy was fighting for the right for sole custody for a father. And because there are only two lawyers in Charleston it appears, Jamie represented the mother. This case granted audiences a glimpse of people’s motives, like Jamie’s new official beau Preston’s involvement in the sex tape. Or the backstory of Lee Anne’s home life — mainly her veteran husband who was injured in combat. And it showcased that Roy really is a good guy who won’t put his kids through the court system, even though he believes he should have sole custody.

And while the plot of Reckless improved in the second episode, there were still some fairly awkward moments. Teaching Jamie the “bless your heart” protocol in the South seemed forced. But she sure picked it up quickly when the lady she was representing — the same lady who hired a hit man to stage a fake gun attack on her home in the custody battle — asked her to represent her again. Yankee Jamie’s perfect Southern response: “Bless your heart.” Pretty sure that shouldn’t be used on the job, south of the Mason-Dixon line or not.

Another questionable point was Lee Anne’s waitress uniform. The fictional Charleston restaurant (which looks like it was filmed at Bowens Island Restaurant) required her to wear an ab-revealing halter crop top with a mini-skirt. The girls at Market Street Saloon wear more than that to work. And hot plates can burn. It’s just not practical.

But all being said, the second episode did improve on the pilot. At times it was a little slow — we may have dozed off during the middle — but the show does seem to be moving in the right direction. And what do you know, they’ve roped us into watching the third episode — almost wanting to in fact. Way to go, CBS, way to go.
