Goose Creek High School student Megan Montgomery is the winner of the Charleston International Film Festival's (CIFF) first student screenplay competition, part of the CIFF's Script-to-Screen initiative. Montgomery won for her short screenplay Turpentine Nails, which will now be developed into a short film by professional filmmakers. Turpentine Nails will premiere at this year's CIFF.

The initiative, which operated in Goose Creek, Wando, and Academic Magnet high schools, had students work with screenwriter Margaret Ford Rogers and CIFF's Summer Peacher to learn the craft of screenwriting. Students then participated in workshops to create their own screenplays.
