Park Circle Films has announced the winners of the Lowcountry Shorts Festival, which was held Sept. 28-29 and screened 32 shorts from around the world.
Judges (who included City Paper’s Paul Bowers) chose three winners. The Best Film award went to the Spanish Vocabulary, about two lonely people in a foreign land who strike up a meaningful friendship. The Regional Spotlight award, which goes to filmmakers in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia, went to Charleston’s own Hopeless Romantic, a tale of a guy who lives and breathes bikes — and nothing else — until he meets a girl who helps him come out of his shell. And the Audience Award went to Beast, a dark Danish film about an abusive father whose son tries to force him into apologizing for his actions.
Each winner received $150, a one-year license for the editing suite Lightworks, and a lifetime membership to Scripped, a free online screenwriting software service.
