Want to be an extra for a low-budget, Southern comedy flick being filmed in the Upstate? You'll probably get some free food, make some new friends, and oh did we mention Burt Reynolds is in it? You may apply to meet the dreamy Mr. Reynolds — errr, we mean audition for the film Elbow Grease
. The film is being shot in Oconee County, just west of Greenville. Reynolds also starred in a little movie you may have heard of called Deliverance
, which was shot on the Chattanooga River in Oconee County.
Filming is scheduled to start on Sept. 30, and it'll take about a month to shoot, although the crew is expected to remain longer than that. It’ll be shot in the town Seneca, around Lake Keowee, and other surrounding areas. The film is described as a “Southern comedy” taking place in the 1990s and revolving around Billy and Ellie Barnes and their family. Billy and Ellie’s marriage has seen better days, but when Billy’s brother, Randy, arrives things really start to fall apart. The ensuing insanity threatens not only the stability of the Barnes family but the tranquility of the town as well.
While it's every American’s dream to meet Burt Reynolds try to remain calm if you do manage to get cast — ot sneak your way past the film crew and security detail. Upon approaching Mr. Reynolds here are some phrases we recommend trying to avoid: “Squeal like a pig boy;” “My those are mighty big biceps you have there;” “I loved you in In the Name of the King;
” and “Can I pet your mustache?” Also picking up a banjo around him is ill advised.
