What better time for a horror festival than Easter weekend?

Following on the heels of next year's Charleston International Film Festival (which will run April 9-13 of 2014) comes the Crimson Screen Horror Film Festival, a two-day event showcasing independent horror filmmakers.

Festival creator and filmmaker Tommy Faircloth has been looking to create an event like this for a while. “Non-genre film festivals usually overlook horror films. Since there isn’t an outlet for these kinds of movies in South Carolina, we wanted to create one,” he says.

Next April 19 and 20, the fest will show 12 hours of slashers, monster films, features, shorts, and everything in between. They’ll even have holiday-appropriate zombie flicks. Awards will be presented to the best, with a special category for South Carolinian filmmakers. Submissions have already begun pouring in from around the world.

Faircloth is currently looking over entries now and says that anyone can, and should, submit. “We want to encourage everyone, even students with no money to professionals, to enter. It’s a big draw for filmmakers to network, meet others, gain exposure, and create support for crowdfunding.”
