Updated: Erick Erickson claims Bauer is behind 'raghead' comment

Posted by Chris Haire on Fri, Jun 4, 2010 at 7:51 AM

Look, I think Andre Bauer is an incompetent boob. How he ever got elected to statewide office — I'm not sure. Maybe his eyebrows have some sort of Samson-like power, one that bewitches South Carolina voters into overlooking the frikkin obvious: Bauer is a manchild who never developed beyond age 16.

When he's not recklessly driving his car, he's spouting off brain-dead bon mots. Hey bubba, that's the crap I pulled when I was 16.

And in college.

And during my late 20s..

And, yikes, just a few weeks ago.

Great Buddha's Belly, I'm a manchild too. Me and Andre are, gulp, one and the same.

Well, I guess except for those nudge-nudge-wink-wink rumors. Oh, wait, there are those about me too? Hmm. You know, there was that one time behind the dumpster, but that was just for bus money, so it doesn't count.

The point is, I don't make it a habit of defending Andre Bauer or heading downtown without exact change.

But this Erick Erickson thing, has gotten me plenty pissed, and not in a five-pint sort of way.

After saying he had proof that Bauer was involved in the whole Haley-Folks mess and then admitting that he didn't have diddly, Erickson has once again returned to pointing the blame for the whole sordid affair at Bauer. (Haley's been doing the same. See yesterday's polygraph post.)

Here's what Erickson says this time:

Well, Andre Bauer’s campaign to paint Nikki Haley as a two-timing wh*re — and you’ll have to forgive me if you object to the word, but that is exactly what the dribbling out of “I slept with Nikki Haley” stories was designed to do — blew up in his face.

Now he’s moved on to her being a raghead.

Actually, Erick, Bauer didn't say squat. Jake Knotts did. And in case you haven't noticed, Jake Knotts is not Andre Bauer.

And while you can say the two are simpatico, ole Jakey doesn't always do what's in Andre's best interest, like, um, the time that Blog Active's Mike Rogers claimed he had proof that Bauer is gay. Instead of letting the story go peacefully into the forgotten realms of the internets, Knotts claimed that international media super dunce Gov. Mark Sanford was behind the allegation. It was only then that the Bauer gay claim hit the cable news networks.

After Erickson makes his claim that Bauer called Haley a "raghead," he then goes into some convoluted conspiracy theory about CBN reporter David Brody and Knotts and Bauer and, I don't know, the motherhugging Illuminati.

The fact is, a lot of Andre Bauer’s core backers run in circles that would give them easy access to David Brody, who is CBN’s White House correspondent and a man who claimed those of us noting Barack Obama’s support of infanticide in the Illinois legislature, which is an objective fact, were being “shrill” for pointing it out.

In a search of David Brody’s “Brody Files” website today, he has never before written about Nikki Haley. Then lo and behold, today David Brody writes about Nikki Haley’s religious background and notes that when she first ran for office, the press played up her background as a Sikh and her campaign website did not mention she is a Methodist.

Then we get this curious paragraph:

"The fact that the Haley campaigned changed the wording on the website led The Brody File to do some digging. The Brody File has uncovered documents and details that show an emphasis on her Sikh faith and traditions in 2004 when she was running for the State Legislature (even though she became a Christian 7 years earlier)"

What a load of nonsense. David Brody did not do any digging. Andre Bauer’s campaign fed him all the information and he willingly unleashed the hit job. He claims he was interested because of the recent allegations of “affairs,” but never goes there where everyone else has been. He goes off on this tangent.

Wow. I don't know what to say. Bauer's backers "run in circles that would give them easy access to David Brody"? Are you serious? That's all the proof that you have that Andre Bauer is linked to David Brody? How is it that I'm not surprised. Seriously, CNN, fire this joker.

And, I can't believe that nobody has said this before, but the alleged photo that's out there featuring Folks and Haley involved in an amorous embrace, the one that Jake Knotts may or may not have had a private dic take, um, has anybody considered that no such photo exists?

And not only that, but the rumors that Will Folks heard that a story was imminent, has anybody considered that they were in fact just rumors. Even better, has anybody ever even considered that somebody was just fucking with Folks? Yes, the Free Times and the AP had investigated the allegations, but I'd be willing to bet they weren't going to go public. The evidence there was pretty weak.

See, Columbia's a place where rumors fly around like flying monkeys in the Wicked Witch of the West's castle. Somebody's always bumping somebody, and somebody else is always doing another bump of something. Usually, they keep this silliness to themselves, but this time, it got out and now there's monkey poop everywhere.

Now, if only a few of those monkeys would go and drop a load on RedState, then I'd be happy.

UPDATE: The Free-Times has very enlightening read on Jake Knotts and his "raghead" comment.

Here's a taste:

With a bead of sweat rolling down the side of his face outside a Columbia bar, Republican S.C. Sen. Jake Knotts called Lexington Rep. Nikki Haley, an Indian-American Republican woman running for governor, a “raghead” several times while explaining how he believed she was hiding her true religion from voters.

“She’s a f#!king raghead,” Knotts said.

He later clarified his statement. He did not mean to use the F-word.

Knotts says he believed Haley has been set up by a network of Sikhs and was programmed to run for governor of South Carolina by outside influences in foreign countries. He claims she is hiding her religion and he wants the voters to know about it.

“We got a raghead in Washington; we don’t need one in South Carolina,” Knotts said more than once. “She’s a raghead that’s ashamed of her religion trying to hid it behind being Methodist for political reasons.”
