Like a recent e-mail notifying some folks on a Charleston Tea Party mailing list about a health-care forum hosted by U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn on Sat. July 11. The forum is at 2-4 p.m. at the International Longshoreman Association Hall, 1142 Morrison Dr., in downtown Chucktown.
According to a release from the Congressman's folks, the forum "will provide an opportunity for South Carolinians who face the realities of being either uninsured or underinsured to hear first hand how proposed legislation could affect their ability to obtain safe, quality, and affordable health care."
The whole thing is sponsored by S.C. Appleseed Legal Justice Center, AARP South Carolina, the S.C. Small Business Chamber of Commerce, and South Carolina Fair Share. U.S. Rep. John M. Spratt (D-Rock Hill) will also be in attendance.
Well, at least one mailing list subscriber apparently felt the need to encourage fellow Teabaggers to attend the event, writing, "We need to infiltrate and pose some serious questions. I'd like to embarrass the whole lot of them. I am a health-care worker, and I see nothing but poor health care resulting from Obama's plan. I will be there and will ask any questions anyone in our group would like. I'm not sure if I can get in, but I will try my best."
Infiltration? Come on, now. We're not talking about the Bilderberg Group here. This is a public meeting featuring two respected South Carolina Congressmen.
In a later exchange, the alleged writer who first introduced the subject of the health-care forum to the Tea Baggers, seemed to back off from attending the event: "My husband reminded me of the physical fights that occurred several years ago among the longshoremen and the police. He doesn't want me to attend by myself, and I can't blame him. Is anyone else planning to attend the forum on Saturday? There's safety in numbers, you know. However, if I do go, I will be happy to ask some of the questions sent to me; I have been given some good ones! I am working on the 'old man' trying to convince him that we will be safe and that we shouldn't be afraid of any violence from the "union" longshoremen. The temp. outside is rising and so is my blood pressure over this unhealthy health-care proposal! I just don't feel like I can stand alone among these people being a white, middle-class female. (No offense to the black race)."
Well, seeing how the City Paper offices are just a hop, skip, and a stumble from the Longshoreman Hall, I feel pretty comfortable telling you that the place doesn't seem like the kind of joint that holds UFC matches on a regular basis. It's a pretty quiet place, near as I can tell. In fact, a few weeks back they had a nice little barbecue.
We encourage you to go there and learn more about the Fed's proposed health-care plans.

With "Teabaggers" in the title of your post you've shown your opinion as clearly as the writer to the mailing-list that you quote. Whatever, I would love to attend the meeting, thanks for the invite! Rhonda
Here's the funny thing about the Tea Party: Ron Paul's folks started the whole thing back in '07, but then it got hijacked by Fox News talking heads, Rush Limbaugh, and their ilk. But Rush, Glenn Beck, and Sean Hannity and the rest of the maim-stream media don't like to talk about that.
Other than that, I just like to use the term Teabag. Reminds me of college.
I very much wanted to support Ron Paul but his "isolationist" view of foreign affairs was a bit much for this gun carrying southerner. :)
Seriously, who cares where the movement started? That it is mostly ignored by the media is not surprising since the agenda for the mainstream is to shephard us toward progressivism (is that a word)?
Well it does matter.
Those very same talking heads and GOP leaders who now embrace the Tea Parties rejected Paul in the past, and by the past, I mean last year.
They dissed the Ron Paul Revolution in 2007-2008, but now, well, they're all for it. Until 2011-12 when they'll give Paul the cold-shoulder again.
Poor guy can't catch a break.
It's too bad that the Charleston Cilly Paper didn't announce the date, time and place that Clyburn and Spratt (2 of Obama's Democratic puppets) are hosting the "forum" to promote nationalized health care. Perhaps it is because the liberal, biased, left-wing media was afraid that opposition to this ridiculous idea would be too much for them to handle. After all, your President Obama has been dubbed as a pathologic narcissist by a world renown psychologist and we all know that narcissists can't handle opposition! Chris Haire, you could learn a lot from us "tea baggers". If not from us, then I'm quite sure you will learn when your measly little paycheck is even less after the "Feds" deduct more taxes to pay for socialized medicine. Good luck to you and may you be healthy. One last thing. It's "hop, skip and jump", not hop, skip and stumble"! What have you been drinking? And on the job! Shame on you!
Actually, it's Obama's gonads blocking their eyes that cause the young liberals to be tea-bagged and not seeing clearly. Isn't that identical to the cheating spouse who accuses their non-cheating spouse of the same thing because they are?
Maybe one of these days, the young liberals will wake up and open their eyes as to what's really happening. I just hope it's not too late.
The problem with socialism is eventually you run out of other people's money.
Two things:
One, the date is included in the article.
Two, Schweddy Balls are delicious. Mmmm.

I saw nor heard anything before today and quite frankly, I believe something really stinks in the wood pile! Corruption and greed are ruining our great country, not to mention the idiots who fall for our leader's lies. Come on people, let's face it. We are no longer a capitalist country. But just wait until 2010 when the good politicians are elected ousting the corrupt, and in 2012 when we elect a fair and honest president who will serve the people and not his own agenda. May God be with us all until we get the current administration out!
Well it does matter.

Actually, it is my belief that the "talking heads" viewed Ron Paul as I did...too extremist in his agenda for the mainstream. Which extremism has been more harmful to this country? If Ron Paul runs in 2012 he'll likely get my vote. As for the media, they seem to be controlling the populace so it seems to me the sooner we channel them to a candidate and the earlier and stronger they endorse, the better. Unless of course the Fairness Doctrine is re-instated, right?

The Fairness Doctrine will never happen. It's a boogeyman, and only a few wingnut Dems will even suggest it.
On the GOP side, Jim DeMint has been particularly embarrassing when it comes to this issue. Tacking on an amendment banning a new Fairness Doctrine to a bill granting statehood to Washington D.C.? Come on, now. He knew dang well that bill would never pass, but it allowed him the chance to act as if he was dealing a blow to Fairness Doc supporters. Lame.
OK, I should have ended the FD comment with ;)
Chris (may I call you Chris?LOL)
all of our elected officials are embarrasing with the garbage they post to bills. Neither party is less culpable than the other, which is kinda the point with the Tea Party's. Let's vote them out (or prosecute) and stop this insane slide into our governmental take over of all things private. See, it's that easy!
Me, a Teabagger, um, why not. But only if I can be a Lipton Teabagger.
You know, in regards to voting all the bums out, that ain't ever going to happen. It's a quick and easy solution, yes, but it's a lost cause.
The only change that can occur is incrementally.
To paraphrase Richard Hell: Change comes in spurts.
It is NOT easy and will take much time and effort, but I believe that with God's help and some much needed money, those pesky tea-baggers can achieve their goals. Once good candidates are chosen to run against the incumbents, we will bus, wheel or carry voters to the polls - maybe even start early like the last election in 11/08! Historical election, I'll say! And the result? More job losses, bonuses for AIG with bail out /stimulus money, voter fraud by ACORN revealed, and the audacity to think government can run health care! Now the "Obamaman" wants the military oath to be to the president of the U.S. instead of to the Constitution! How arrogant!
