Or so claims Newt Gingrich about Sen. Jim DeMint's new book, "Saving Freedom: We can stop America's slide into socialism."
We'll see. I bought the book a few days back, but then this Sanford and Jacko thing one-two'ed me into a state of delirious punch-drunkeness and I just stumbled from screen to screen until I was down for the count. (Wow, that sentence didn't make a lick of sense. You'd think I was offering some kind of explanation about my love of the Appalachian Trail.)
On Friday July 3, the DeMinted one will be in Chucktown to sign copies of "Saving Freedom" at the Costco in West Ashley starting at 4 p.m. I seriously doubt I'll be able to make it. But I might. Look for the white guy, the one about 50 years old, the golf shirt, and the close-cropped hair. That would be me.

I can't believe this crap is coming from educated adults. They don't even appear to know what socialism really is. I grew up in a place that had an active socialist party, and this aint it folks, so don't worry, the red army is not coming for you right wing dildo heads.
I just finished skimming through it. A few things:
1. Jim Demint is very reluctant to define the term freedom.
2. He seems to confuse the free market with freedom.
3. He ignores the fact that socialism is an economic system only. And attempts to redefine socialism as totalitarianism.
4. You as an American can only truly be a good freedom-loving American unless you follow "God's constitution, the Bible."
5. Only religious schools that preach Judeo-Christian beliefs should get government funding.
6. Americans have always been free ... until now. That is if you overlook, slaves and that sort of thing.
DeMint is another neo-con running around screaming"the sky is falling, the sky is falling". I would use his book for T.P., but not as reading material.
Sure the United States is not a totally socialist country yet. I think that is the point of the book. DeMint wishes to prevent that. Any critical observer must realize that the Obama is making a determined push to advance the US toward a more socialist economy. Chrishaire’s point that Socialism is an economic system ignores the fact that any countries economic system is going to have a political system that supports that system. You can not separate money from politics. Money is power and power is the business of politics.
