Online Hook-Ups: A Cautionary Tail (er, tale)

Posted by Greg Hambrick on Thu, Jul 9, 2009 at 2:07 PM

Friendly reminder fellas: an online hook-up can be dangerous and costly.

On my day job here at the paper, I dive through dozens and dozens of police reports to provide the Blotter fodder.

This week, a 40-something West Ashley man invited a 20-something guy back to his house. The next day, his bank called him, reporting nearly $700 in fraudulent charges. It turns out that he was missing two credit cards and a bank card.

Er, how is this not a hate crime?

I'm just kidding, of course. The perp, whom I hope will be met with swift and severe justice, would have to quote a bible verse, for it to be considered a "hate" crime.

I'm sorry. Once again, I am mistaken. Said perp will have to quote the bible AND be white for the thought crime label to apply. Of course, if the aforementioned criminal had quoted the Koran, this incident would be swept under the rug, like yesterdays dust.
