A reunited Ben Folds Five heads to the PAC
Tickets for the September show go on sale this week

The North Charleston Performing Arts Center announced today that pop songwriter and pianist Ben Folds has reassembled his band the Ben Folds Five and scheduled a string of fall concerts. Folds, drummer Darren Jessee, and bassist/guitarist Robert Sledge are solid for a show at the PAC on Wed. Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. with support from Australian singer/songwriter Kate Miller-Heidke.
The Ben Folds Five formed in 1993 in Chapel Hill, N.C., and they quickly rose to prominence in the mid-’90s for their jazz-accented power-pop styles. The song ”Underground,” from their self-titled debut on the Caroline label, made a splash in 1995. In 1997, the band’s single “Brick,” from their album Whatever and Ever Amen, earned massive mainstream radio play. In 2000, Folds stepped away from the band to pursue solo efforts. The year’s tour marks the first time the three bandmates have hit the road in 12 years. A new Ben Folds Five studio album is due for release later this year.

Sadler Vaden in town for solo gigs and more

“I’m so excited to get back down there and play,” Vaden says. “Music City life is good. I’ve been writing a lot and I’m starting to get studio sessions. I’m also starting to build my own project, which should be putting a record out by this fall on Shrimp records. Drivin’ N Cryin’ have been busy recording with Paul Ebersold in Nashville, too.”
On Fri. June 29, Drivin’ N Cryin’ will headline Party at the Point at the Charleston Harbor Resort. Admission is $15. Local Americana-rock songwriter Luke Cunningham will open the show at 6 p.m. Drivin’ N Cryin’ recently released an EP titled Songs from the Laundromat featuring the single “R.E.M.” Three more EPs are on the way this year.

Veteran singer/songwriter Lindsey Buckingham — an acclaimed musician and vocalist known best for his work with Fleetwood Mac — recently embarked on a summer solo tour of the U.S. The skillful finger-style guitarist will play an intimate
one-man show" at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center on Sat. Aug. 4 in support of his latest solo collection Seeds We Sow (Mind Kit/Fontana). His set list will include a variety of Fleetwood Mac classics as well.
“As I’ve grown as an artist, I’ve gotten more and more in touch with my center,” Buckingham states in a recent press release. “And that center is voice and guitar. Over time, it has become increasingly vital to express more with less. That is my touchstone now, and the embodiment of that philosophy is what will be largely represented in the new show.”
Buckingham joined Fleetwood Mac in 1974. His songwriting contributions include “Monday Morning,” “Second Hand News,” “Never Going Back Again,” “Go Your Own Way,” and “Tusk.” He left the band in 1987 to concentrate on solo efforts, but he's rejoined the group over the years.

Entertainment Weekly praised the album and its “lovely troubadour melodies,” while Relix hailed it as “an album full of undeniable folk-rock hooks, gospel overtones, infectious lyrics, orchestral swells and a whole lot of love.”
The band plans on releasing a follow up to Here later this year. Sharpe and the band will also be releasing a film directed by Emmett Malloy, highlighting the group’s 2011 Railroad Revival Tour with Mumford and Sons and Old Crow Medicine Show. The film, titled Big Easy Express, premiered at the 2012 SXSW Film Festival and took home the Headliner Audience Award. It will be available June 26 on iTunes.
