Three bands have been announced for this year's Spring Jam Music Fest, and one of them is an up-and-coming local act: Brave Baby, a Holy City indie band that made some internet-waves in 2013 with their debut album Forty Bells.
Brave Baby join the lineup alongside the Kopecky Family Band and Space Capone. The full band list has not yet been decided, and you can vote for other bands to complete the lineup at springjammusicfest.com.
It's been a good few months for Brave Baby, says frontman Keon Masters. They made a few best-of-the-year lists, including Blue Indian's Top 13 and SceneSC's Top 10. They also sold out a few shows, including a packed house at the Royal American on Dec. 30 and a harbor cruise show onboard the Carolina Queen Nov. 23.
"It was pretty surreal," Masters says of the show. "We had a lot of good fans there. It was kind of — not to say that we'd arrived — but I felt like we actually had a presence in town, which was cool."
Masters says the band has been recording demos for a new album and will hit the road in February for a tour of the Northeast with a planned stop-over in Rock Island, Ill., to record a Daytrotter session. They recorded their first in February 2013.
Spring Jam will take place Sat. March 29 at Brittlebank Park. Early bird tickets are on sale for $20 through Jan. 31.
UPDATE: After we put up this blog post, Spring Jam's organizers announced via Facebook that they had added local act the Dead 27s to the lineup. The Dead 27s swept the City Paper Music Awards in 2013, with readers giving them the nod for Rock Band of the Year, Up and Coming Band of the Year, Song of the Year ("Don't Want to Live My Life Without You"), and Guitarist of the Year (Wallace Mullinax). Here's a video from the CPMAs featuring the song "Don't Want to Live My Life Without You":
