Superstar crooner Barry Manilow is performing at the North Charleston Coliseum on Jan. 19, and he's got an unusual proposition for those planning on buying tickets. In lieu of shelling out cash, Manilow fans can bring a new or gently used musical instrument to the North Charleston Coliseum box office at 5001 Coliseum Drive in North Charleston and receive two tickets valid for pre-selected seats. The instruments will be donated to the Manilow Music Project, Manilow's music education nonprofit, which will distribute the instruments to Charleston County schools.

The Manilow Music Project conducts musical instrument drives all across the country, and has provided more than 70 public schools with instruments and music materials. The Charleston County School District, which serves more than 45,000 students, will be the first in South Carolina to benefit from one of the performer's drives. "What a tremendous inspiration it is for our students to know that this legendary composer and performer has taken such a personal interest in their future," said CCSD Superintendent Nancy McGinley in a press release.

Manilow will kick off the drive by donating a Yamaha piano, and the drive will run through Jan. 19. You can drop off instruments at the Coliseum box office between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. You can find out more about the Manilow Music Project at manilowmusicproject.org.
