The Holy City's favorite American Idol Elise Testone is a huge James Brown fan. In fact, the R&B chanteuse has been hosting James Brown Dance Parties for years. Although these fave shows have been MIA lately, now that Testone is back in Chucktown, she's throwing one once again, this time on Halloween night, Thurs. Oct. 31, at the Brick House.
During the show, Testone and her 10-piece band, including sax man Simon Harding, will play covers from blue-eyed soul singer Jamiroquai, the brass-loving R&B giants Tower of Power, and, of course, the Godfather of Soul himself. "I'm most excited to reunite with this band," Testone says. "I love the funk and the good energy this show provides." As for her eternal devotion to the classic songs of James Brown, Testone says, "I love the feel of 'I Got the Feeling,' but 'It's a Man's Man's Man's World' will probably always be my favorite."
The James Brown Dance Party will also feature Charleston City Paper Music Award nominees the Dead 27s, which is led by Testone's go-to lead guitarist Wallace Mullinax.
Doors open at 6 p.m., and tickets are $15/adv., $20/door. Brick House will also be selling VIP tickets ($50/adv., $60/door), which'll land you a meet-and-greet with Testone and free booze and food. For more information, visit brickhousecharleston.com.
