Shovels & Rope has announced a pair of hometown shows at the Charleston Music Hall on Jan. 17 and 18. Tickets, which go for $20 per individual show or $36 for a two-night bundle, will go on sale Fri. Oct. 4 at 10 a.m. Get 'em while they're hot.

If anybody has earned the right to Americana darling status, it's the scrappy husband-and-wife duo of Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent, who entertained us for years with regular gigs at the Pour House and other local establishments. But as a result of a banner touring year and rave reviews in national press, the band's trips back to home base on Johns Island have become few and far between.

"As you all know, our shows here at home are always a joy for us, and hopefully a joy for all of you as well," the band said in an announcement on their Facebook page today. "2014 will be an exciting year for Shovels & Rope, and nothing makes us happier than to kick it off with all of you who have been with us since the beginning."

The opening act for both of the Music Hall shows will be Shakey Graves, an Austin-based alt-country songwriter with a lo-fi aesthetic and a dark musical disposition who has been touring with the band on its headline tour.

Locals will have at least one other chance to catch ShoRo between now and January. They're on the lineup for the Edisto Island Bluegrass Festival, scheduled for Oct. 26 at Point of Pines Plantation. Shovels & Rope can hardly be called a bluegrass band, but they will nonetheless appear alongside the Lonesome River Band, Franky Solivan & Dirty Kitchen, Bluestone Ramblers, and other masters of mountain music. Festival tickets are $30 in advance or $35 at the gate.
