Bam’s back with online metal show

Former 98 Rock headbanger joins forces with megadumper Brandon Duncan

For five years, Brian “Bam” Kirkman co-hosted a metal show on 98X, now 98 Rock. But those days in radio are in the past. However, Kirkman just might have a future online.

Recently, Kirkman launched the internet show BHNFUX with co-host and friend Brandon Duncan, and you can hear it live each week at jonasmountradio.com. Thanks to Kirkman’s new gig, he won’t have to “skate around” topics like he did during his days on the public airways. With BHNFUX, Kirkman is free to say pretty much whatever the hell he damn well pleases. “It’s full blown, balls to the wall,” he says.

Kirkman and Duncan first met during a radio contest for Megadeth tickets at 98X. The former radio DJ says the idea for the contest began with a sign that he saw on the lawn of 98X, one telling dog owners not to let their pets poo on the grass. Kirkman noted that the sign didn’t say jack shit about people using the potty, and like that, the Megadump for Megadeth contest was born. So Bam took to the airways to announce that anyone who dropped a deuce on 98X’s “yard” would win tickets to a forthcoming Megadeth show. And that’s where Duncan comes in. He did his dirty little business right there. And he wasn’t the only one. Nine other people joined him. Disgusting, yes. Funny, absolutely. Sophomoric, who gives a shit.

Of course, if that was an example of Kirkman skating around the morally-minded dictates of commercial radio, imagine what he might do once those barriers to indecency are removed. Yikes.

Sponsored in part by Breck’s Steakhouse in North Chuck, BHNFUX airs every Sunday from 7-9 p.m., and Kirkman views the new show as just a revamped version of the one he left in 2011. More importantly, he just happy to be able to get people excited about music again. “I love metal,” Kirkman says. “I remember the feeling I felt whenever I would hear a song I was into on the radio. I want people to get the same vibe.”

In addition to playing collection of hardcore and metal, BHNFUX also features drop-bys by members of the Charleston metalrati. Past guests have included members of Homicide and Tripping the Mechanism. This Sun. June 9, Kirkman and Duncan will host Kevin Isaac from the much-loved 1990’s act Children’s Choir. Before the show, the DJ duo will be at Breck’s Steakhouse (8510 Rivers Ave., 843-572-1631) for a pre-show meal which they do every other weekend from 5-6 p.m.
