Baroness to play Monster in-store on Memorial Day

John Baizley talks about his recovery after wreck

Big news headbangers: Baroness has scheduled an in-store appearance at Monster Music and Movies for Mon. May 27, a.k.a. Memorial Day. The time: 4 p.m. Head Monster Galen Hudson predicts this will be the single biggest in-store show in the West Ashley's store history, and with good reason. Baroness' Yellow & Green was arguably the best hard rock album of 2012.

Recently, we got a chance to talk to John Baizley, singer, guitarist, and cover designer for Baroness, for an upcoming feature story that will run in the paper before their Tue. May 28 show at the Music Farm. During the convo, Baizley talked about the band's decision to leave Savannah, the tragic bus accident that derailed the group's 2012 tour and led to the departure of two band members, and his forays into the visual art world.

As for his own injuries — including a severely broken arm and leg — Baizley says, "I wouldn't say by a long shot I've fully recovered." However, he looks forward to getting back on the road.

On May 24, the band will play its first gig since the wreck and its first show in the U.S. supporting Yellow and Green. With the departure of drummer Allen Blickle and bassist Matt Maggioni, Baizley and guitarist Pete Adams have been busy getting Baroness' two new band members up to speed on the group's eclectic — and often punishing — catalog."Time is of the essence," Baizely says. "It's a lot of notes."
