Band of Horses get Stoned

Rolling Stone names Ben Bridwell and company 'Hot Neoclassicists'

Corporate rock magazines may suck, as the dearly departed Kurt Cobain once declared, but we doubt there are few musicians out there who aren’t tickled pink when Rolling Stone turns its attention their way. And that’s just what the venerable rock ‘n’ magazine did in their most recent Hot Issue to Chucktown’s own Band of Horses, naming Ben Bridwell and the gang the pop world’s Hot Neoclassicists for their joining forces with legendary producer Glyn Johns (Who’s Next, Slowhand) on their latest disc Mirage Rock.

According to the mag, Bridwell was intimidated by Johns’ methods, most notably the producer’s insistence that the BOH frontman debut his new tunes on the acoustic guitar in front of his compadres. “It was terrifying,” Bridwell told RS. “All your frailties are on display amongst your closest friends and the most legendary producer that’s ever walked the Earth.”

However, Bridwell was more than pleased with the result, telling the mag, “A few days later, I was playing basketball out in the courtyard, and I heard the playback. I actually thought someone was playing a Neil Young record. When I got closer, I was like, ‘Oh, shit, it’s me.” For more, pick up the latest issue of Rolling Stone.
