Maybe Moogfest should be called Movefest, the annual electronic music fest held in Asheville, NC., in honor of Robert Moog, the inventor of the synthesizer. Unlike other high-profile music fests, which can leave you feeling like you've been stranded in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, the Oct. 26-27 Moogfest cleverly spreads its many activities across the historical city, so be sure to put on some good walking shoes. Some of the spots to hit on your journey: the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium, Diana Wortham Theater, Asheville Music Hall, and the Orange Peel (which Rolling Stone named as one of the best rock clubs in the country).

If you aren't attending for the performances from acts like Santigold, Miike Snow, Explosions in the Sky, Nas, Primus, and Orbital (just to spotlight a few), don't fear that you'll end up like that bum you dragged to Bonnaroo back in '08 (you know, the one who complained the whole time because he didn't go for the music, but went to meet girls, and, well, that just didn't happen, poor guy). Think of it as a sort of modern day World's Fair for electronics in general. For those into mixing their own stuff, Orbital is partnering with Moogfest to offer producers the chance to remix the duo's own "Where Is It Going." The recipient of the chosen remix will attend Moogfest as a VIP, with accommodations for two, and even meet Orbital and be featured on their Soundcloud and Facebook pages. See moogfest.com for more details.

Another highlight and source of inspiration: Dr. Bob's Interactive Sonic Experience, which pays tribute to the late pioneer, Robert Moog, with a variety of educational tools and displays.

In addition to all that, there will be art shows and really, really good food. (For you vegans out there, you've got to hit up the Laughing Seed. And take a meat-lover along with you. If there's one thing the Seed proves, it's that vegan fare doesn't have to be boring and bland.) For more information and ticketing prices, visit moogfest.com
