Charleston drummer Stratton Moore is ready to present the fourth annual Strap-On Face Funk showcase at the Pour House on Sat. April 28. The groove-based jam sessions and parties take place on the deck from 5-9 p.m. and on the main stage at 9 p.m.

“It started four years ago when I decided that all I wanted for my birthday was to have all my family members and musician friends get together and throw an epic all out anything goes dance party,” Moore says. “It started small and has progressively gotten bigger and bigger. The event needed a name, so we took one of many childhood nicknames ‘Strap-On’ and combined it with a little risque word-play and arrived with the title.”

Reggae/groove band the Folly Beach Reggae All-stars and jammy rock acts Shonuff, Old You, and Strap-On and Friends will play on the deck. Inside, electro/fusion band the Key of Q and deep-funk ensembles Sex Bruise?, Yellowknife, and Wadata will share the stage, followed by an “super funk jam session” led by the Bunko Squad (featuring members of Stereo Reform and the Freeloaders).

“This year will feature music from some of the best musicians in town, and it is also the first year I will have all three of my brothers in town, plus mom and pop,” Moore adds. “My oldest brother will be selling his original artwork, and another brother will be trading off with me on drums through out the whole night. There may even be sit-ins from my old man, who slaps a mean bass.”

Admission is $5 for the deck sets, and $7 inside. Visit charlestonpourhouse.com for more.
