The 2012 Savannah Music Festival is bigger than ever. Scheduled for Wed. March 22 through Sat. April 7 at various clubs and theaters around the city’s historic district, the 17-day fest will feature a lineup of more than 100 classical, jazz, rock, Americana, gospel, and bluegrass artists. The festival’s classical programming include events throughout the day.
Some of the stand-out acts include the original lineup of Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, trombonist Wycliffe Gordon’s Quintet doing a tribute to Louis Armstrong, the jazzy Joshua Redman/Brad Mehldau Duo, acoustic duo Edgar Meyer & Mike Marshall, and a jazz-meets-bluegrass collaboration between the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and the Del McCoury Band.
“In the Old World atmosphere of historic Savannah, our festival’s annual confluence of chamber music virtuosos, American and international master instrumentalists, and the most soulful jazz, blues, gospel, and bluegrass artists creates a paradise for music lovers, says Executive and Artistic Director Rob Gibson.
