Church’s forthcoming EP, a five-song disc titled To Each His Own, maintains his Southern heritage as a storyteller. “My lyrics are still strong, but my music is growing,” Church says. “Hank Williams, Bob Dylan, and Jim Morrison have long been influences, but lately I’ve developed a strong appreciation for J. J. Cale. I’ve always liked his work, but I am more pleased with a simplistic artistic delivery.”
Chris Cook, one of Church’s old buddies from Charlotte, helped the songwriter arranged a few dates in Key West, Fla., at the Lazy Gecko. The two taped a music video for the new song “Worst Enemy,” a track from Church’s upcoming EP.
Church performs a handful of shows this week. He’ll be at Planet Follywood on Folly Beach on Fri. Dec. 23 and Toast on Meeting Street on Tues. Dec. 27. Check out kevinchurch.info for more. —Duffy Lewis
