This year, City Paper’s annual Music Issue will shine the spotlight on a cross section of standout Lowcountry acts with the City Paper Music Awards. The CPMAs are designed to celebrate some of the movers and shakers in the scene with a roundup of the most active and accomplished musicians, bands, and recordings of the year.

Through a closed nomination process, a City Paper committee of writers and experts chose players and groups in 21 categories. Readers can cast votes for nominees here between Sept. 26 and Oct. 5.

The categories on this year’s ballot include:

Album of the Year
Song of the Year
Singer of the Year
Guitarist of the Year
Bassist of the Year
Drummer/Percussionist of the Year
Horn Player of the Year (Brass/Woodwind)
Pianist/Keyboardist of the Year
DJ/Electronic Artist of Year
Multi-instrumentalist of the Year
Rock Band of the Year
Jazz Band of the Year
Metal/Punk Band of the Year
Jam/Groove/Reggae Band of the Year
Funk/Soul/R&B Artist of the Year
Hip-Hop Artist of the Year
Blues Artist of the Year
Singer-Songwriter of the Year

The City Paper will tally the votes in each category and publish the results on Oct. 19. Winners will receive awards created by artist John Pundt at the City Paper Music Awards Show, a gala event set for the Pour House at 7:30 p.m. on Wed. Oct. 19.
