Sons of Bill serenade the Billy Reid set

Acoustic tunes from the Virginia siblings on King Street

Sons of Bill
Armed with acoustic interpretations of their own songs as well as a few classic covers, the core members of Virginia-based rock band Sons of Bill performed an unusual set on Thurs. Sept. 8 at Billy Reid on King Street.

The trio of lead singer/guitarist James Wilson, lead guitarist Sam Wilson, and keyboardist/singer Abe Wilson rightfully distracted Charleston’s fashion set as they strolled around the shop, checking out the new fall line. As folks munched on Bull Street Gourmet sandwiches and sipped Buffalo Trace bourbon, the Sons harmonized beautifully on Don Williams’ “If Hollywood Don’t Need You,” their own anthem “Joey’s Arm,” and new tracks “Siren Song” and the spine-tingling “Virginia Calling.” As attendees scarfed the food, the bourbon left its trace on their red faces while the Wilsons finished closed with Hank Williams’ “You Win Again” and a gorgeous rendition of “Goodnight Irene.”

See for more. — Jared Booth
