Minnesota's favorite son is on the road. Veteran songwriter, musician, and flamboyant soul man Prince will perform in North Charleston on Wed. March 30 as part of his current Welcome 2 America Tour.

Prince and his band perform six nights in North Carolina and South Carolina, starting on March 21 at the Colonial Life Arena in Columbia. Additional concerts include the RBC Center in Raleigh on March 23, the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte on March 24, the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro on March 26, and the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville on March 28.

Based out of Minneapolis, Prince first made a splash in the early 1980s with the stripped-down funk album Controversy and the more full-produced smash album 1999 — featuring the hits “1999,” “Little Red Corvette,” and “Delirious.” 1984’s Purple Rain made Prince a superstar, selling over 10 million copies in the U.S. and spawning the funk/pop hits “Purple Rain,” “When Doves Cry” and “Let’s Go Crazy.” Around the World in a Day featured the 1985 hit “Raspberry Beret.”

Prince recently performed in California and New York with the New Power Generation (drummer John Blackwell and vocalist/tambourine player Shelby Johnson are both from South Carolina).
