The Lowcountry Blues Bash is already in its second week. One of the stand-out shows on today’s schedule (Feb. 10) is a program called Carolina: The Blues Today at the Mad River Bar & Grille (32-B N. Market St.). The lineup features songwriter, guitarist, pianist, and singer Drink Small (the “Blues Doctor”) and Matt Hill and His On-the-Floor Band.

Hill’s latest album, On the Floor (VizzTone), is 14-track disc, produced by Bob Margolin and Dave Gross. Hill started playing guitar at age 12. He defines his style as “deep-fried rhythm and blues.”

“I am psyched this week about the two shows at Mad River,” says Blues Bash organizer Gary Erwin. “Mad River, the old brick church which is now a bar/restaurant at the corner of North Market and East Bay Streets, has become one of our favorite venues. This evening’s show has South Carolina’s 78 year old blues bard and Matt Hill, the rockabilly/blues wild child, doing one of last shows before his move to St. Louis. It will be an epic throw-down of the old and young eccentrics.”

Admission to Carolina: The Blues Today is $10 (cash only) at the door.

Matt Hill and his On-the-Floor Band perform a free show on Fri. Feb. 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the IOP’s Morgan Creek Grill (80 41st Ave.).
