Not since the first meeting of peanut butter and jelly has a concept been so dead on: D’Allesandro’s has a new special order-only pizza cake.
Now, you may have heard of the pizza cake trend. Pillsbury blew minds when it introduced a recipe for a stacked pepperoni pie last year. But the Doughboy doesn’t have a thing on what D’Al’s unveiled today.
“We took three small Chauncinators and parbaked them,” says D’Allesandro’s employee Patrick Hill. Then, in a stroke of genius, the staff took a large pizza, dressed it in oil, garlic, and parmesan, stacked the three small pizzas on top, wrapped them in the large pie dough, and baked it. The result: the ultimate Chauncinator pizza cake — mightier than a calzone, triple a traditional pie’s flavor, and featuring a magnum-size sausage casing worth of pepperoni.
We’re told the cake was such a hit, D’Al’s will offer it by request. “We’re still in the development stages,” says Hill who couldn’t confirm a price. But he says if you call and ask nicely, the staff will make one special for birthdays and other festivities.
