Circa 1886 gets a new look

Before and After

Posted by Kinsey Gidick on Mon, Feb 16, 2015 at 9:06 AM

When it comes to romantic dining in Charleston, Circa 1886 often comes to mind. The tucked away restaurant in the original carriage house of the Wentworth Mansion has featured intimate alcoved booths, white clothed tables, and a small bar since opening in 2000. But now it has a new look.

Gone are the tomato sauce red walls of the booths as well as the orange and beige accents. In their place designer Pam Plowden has opted for a much more modern feel featuring soft tones that hint at the colors of the marsh. Three additional booths have been added to the wine room, black and white images of the Lowcountry now accent the walls, and huge hurricane light fixtures light the space. The effect: same romantic atmosphere circa 2015.
