It is with great displeasure that we inform you that we’ve just learned the Vegetable Bin is closing. The business’s Facebook post
shares the following:
Hey folks... It is with a heavy heart that we let you know we will be closing our doors for good within the next few weeks. We appreciate all of the support we have gotten over the last 6 years. We couldn’t have done it without you! Thanks.
After we heard the sad news, City Paper
writer Nicole Monforton dropped by the store to learn more. Manager Lauren Bailey shared that the business didn’t pass a recent fire marshal inspection, and it would costs a huge sum to bring the building up to code. Add to that the fact that owner William Leonard is getting up there in age — he's 89 — and it seemed like the right time to close. “We’re trying to sell everything by the end of August,” Bailey says.
As loyal Veggie Bin customers, we are devastated by this news. But we’d like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Leonard and staff for keeping our grocery carts filled and our stomachs full of fresh, local produce over the years.
