World Cup Viewing Party at Madra Rua with the Holy City American Outlaws

We Believe

The stakes are high for the United States to move onto the next round in the World Cup, and their fate will be decided when they take on Germany Thursday at 12 p.m. But while some folks will be watching the game on their laptop at work, the Holy City Outlaws will fill Madra Rua Irish Pub in Park Circle. Madra Rua will be serving $4 Carlsberg drafts — and if you buy one of these suds, you'll be entered in a raffle for a 46-inch TV. "It's really simple, we're here to support U.S. soccer with dedication, passion, and heart," says John Lotterhos, the public relations coordinator for the Holy City Outlaws. The Holy City Outlaws are the Charleston chapter of the American Outlaws, a national organization that supports U.S. soccer teams.

If the U.S. wins against Germany, they will move onto the next round as winners of Group G to compete against the second place team from Group H. If the U.S. loses against Germany, then Germany will be the first place winner from Group G. In this case, the U.S. will finish second unless Ghana or Portugal win their game and pass the U.S. on goal differential. (If that's the case, cheer for Portugal since they've got the largest goal difference to overcome.) If Germany and the U.S. tie then Germany wins the group and the U.S. finishes second. The result of the Ghana vs. Portugal game will be meaningless.

But even if the U.S. doesn't advance to the next round, the Holy City Outlaws will still have done their part to support futbol in the States. "It really is about bringing our country true soccer and to let Americans see this isn't as boring as they once thought," Lotterhos says. "Locally, we really want Holy City Outlaws to help spread the word of our local soccer teams, and being able to be a part of helping the Battery fill the stands with fans that love the game as much as we do."
