The Charleston Horticultural Society, under the executive direction of the creative Kyle Barnette, has really stepped up its programming in the last year or so. Instead of a dowdy group of gardeners, the society has positioned itself as a vibrant resource for everyone from backyard vegetable farmers to fancy floral designers. The yearly Plantasia event connects locals to interesting plants that can be successfully grown in our challenging environment.

This year, during Plantasia weekend in April, CHS will be throwing a Garden of Gin party at GrowFood Carolina, pairing drinks with gardening in what they’re dubbing a night horticultural hijinks. Who knew those two things could be combined?

Mixologist Sarah Martin from Bay Street Biergarten will be mixing up vats of gin cocktails and discussing the herbaceous botanicals that go into making the spirit. The evening will feature food, music, and stand-up comedy. Tickets cost $55 and go toward the CHS’s educational programs.
