The Park Café opening Friday too

Can't stop won't stop

Posted by Stephanie Barna on Tue, Feb 11, 2014 at 10:09 AM

Karalee Nielsen Fallert is on a roll. Mere weeks after opening the super hot Lee Lee's Kitchen on President Street, she is on to her next venture: The Park Café in Wagener Terrace.

For this one, the prolific restaurateur (Taco Boy, Monza, Closed for Business, The Royal American) has teamed up with Xan McLaughlin to create a true neighborhood cafe — the kind of place you can grab a drink with friends or a simple meal with the family pretty much any time of day.

The best news might be the chef they have hired to run the kitchen. John Amato, who worked at FIG and ran the Foodie Truck, has crafted a menu described as "contemporary, continental fare."

Breakfast begins every morning at 7 a.m. with Aebliskiver (sweet Danish popovers), SOS (Sauce on a Shingle — chipped beef and gravy served over toast), avocado toast, a poached farm egg served with lentils, and other morning treats. Sounds like a nice place for a breakfast meeting.

Lunch and dinner has a range of choices, from hearty to light: braised shortrib steak, grilled butifara, and pork loin hoagie, roasted cauliflower salad, olive oil poached salmon, and a mushroom and walnut pâté sandwich.

The restaurant will have coffee service along with a full bar of wine, beer, and specialty cocktails (Apricot Sour, anyone?).

The cafe opens Fri. Feb. 14 at 5:30 and will be open Mon.-Sat: 7 a.m.-10 p.m. and at 9 a.m. on Sunday for brunch.  It's located at 730 Rutledge Ave. in the former Granville's.
