Edmund's Oast opens Friday

Get ready to swim in the suds

Well, co-owner Rich Carley joked in the middle of January that their goal was to have Edmund's Oast open by Brewvival, and it looks like they will reach that goal in the nick of time. Plans are to open the doors this Friday night — on Valentine's Day — a mere week ahead of Brewvival.

The staff has been trained. The menu has been set. And they are — hopefully — ready for the crowds to descend, because they will for this hotly anticipated opening.

What you need to know:

1) Edmund's Oast is located at 1081 Morrison Dr.,  a hop, skip, and a jump north of the Ravenel bridge.

2) They open daily at 4:30 p.m. with weekend brunch being added in the coming weeks.

3) The menu is chock full of interesting nibbles: whey-cooked polenta, pine-roasted carrots, pumpkin custard, Carolina Gold rice chicken porridge, cured swordfish.

4) The 42 taps are up and running with four original Edmund's Oast brews, including Nameless City, described as a strong dark ale with notes of cocoa and apricot. (I tried this one at a recent walkthrough and really liked it, despite not being a huge dark ale lover). In addition to those four, 13 other taps are dedicated to local brews from COAST, Palmetto, Frothy Beard, Holy City, Westbrook, and Freehouse. You'll also find some Evil Twin selections, a couple Italian craft beers, and plenty of other stuff to geek out on.

5) The charcuterie plate looks quite beautiful as evidenced by this picture tweeted last night from the restaurant.
