Gullah-Geechee holiday dinner this Friday

If you're looking for a down-on-the-farm local kind of eating experience, then put this on your calendar: the Gullah Geechee Pop-Up Dinner at the Tomato Shed Cafe at Stono Market on Johns Island. 

Chef BJ Dennis will be serving up jalapeño cornbread with local honey, roasted vegetables from Ambrose Farms, red rice using Ambrose's vine-ripened tomatoes, Wadmalaw winter greens braised in coconut milk, smoked and braised turkey wings, farm fresh lettuce with buttermilk dressing, and a baked pumpkin soufflé for dessert. That's a feast right there. 

The menu will be served family-style and costs $30. Kids ten and under eat free. Tea is complimentary, and beer and wine will be available for purchase. 

Dinner starts at 7:30, but doors open at 7 p.m. for appetizers from the Tomato Shed Café menu. Call 843-559-9999 to make your reservations.
