Mellow Mushroom gets trippy in Summerville

Unlike some franchised chain restaurants that churn out cookie-cutter shops, Mellow Mushroom encourages creativity. Each one has a sense of place and reflects the style of the local owners. Take the Avondale location. The owners — Josh Broome, Michael Shemtov, and Johnny Hudgins — transformed an old theater into a massive temple of boisterous fun, lorded over by famed chef Sean Brock dressed as King George no less.

For Summerville, the same ownership team (which also owns the King Street shop) has embraced a "deep in the heart of the pines" theme. A press release describes the restaurant as some sort of magical fairy tale setting with a a wilderness mural, a menagerie of creatures, green lighting, and a metal tree sculpture with "luminous fruits and woodland denizens living among its generously shading branches."

Sounds trippy.

Oh, and there's a fire pit on the patio.

Unfortunately, the only pictures we have don't really show any of that stuff. Looks like we'll have to trip on out to Summerville to see it for ourselves.

The new Mellow Mushroom opens on Monday at 11 a.m. and will be open daily, until midnight Sunday through Thursday and until 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
