The dog days of summer are on a slow approach. Luckily, Charleston’s restaurants are keeping the fresh summer flavors flowing in their weekly and nightly specials. Lately, there’s been much ado about tomatoes. These dishes are as unique as the many kinds of red fruits themselves.

The Grocery is offering a light local surf dish. Indulge in some pan seared Trigger Fish Niçoise style accompanied by roasted potatoes, local cherry tomatoes, green beans, and black olives for $22.

Carolina’s has created a playful take on panzanella, a bread and tomato salad. Their version includes a variety of tomatoes from local farms like Ambrose and Kennerty, complimented by seedless watermelon, arugula, cucumber, olives and summery red wine vinaigrette ($12).

Head over to Two Boroughs for a Steak Tartare with pickled Louisiana chanterelles and pickled heirloom tomatoes with sauce gribiche, accompanied by a moist and crispy Cuban plancha bread. This plate runs for $16.

82 Queen has an heirloom tomato lineup sure to please any diner’s palate. For starters they are offering their take on a caprese salad featuring heirloom tomatoes, Burrata mozzerella, Vincotto vinegar, and California olive oil for $9. Follow it up with a pan seared South Carolina Mahi for $26. This fishy dish is plated with charred cauliflower, grilled okra, heirloom tomatoes, truffled boiled peanut grits, and a saffron Beurre Blanc.
