The South Carolina Hospital Association’s Cooking Well Invitational is being held here in Charleston for a two-day stretch of healthful mouthfuls.
To kick things off in the kitchen, celebrity chefs, TV hosts, and authors Robert Irvine (from Restaurant Impossible) and Marvin Woods (from O magazine, Southern Living, and Food & Wine) will be leading Demo Impossible from 6:30-9:30 p.m. July 25 at the Culinary Institute of Charleston’s Palmer Campus downtown. The chefs will be challenging each other and collaborating to produce some appetizing healthy dishes. General Admission tickets to this night of mouth-watering entertainment are $50 a person and include a taste of the culinary creations. There are also a limited number of VIP tickets available for $125, which provide reserved seating in the demo kitchen.
The following day will be the official Celebrity Chef Cooking Well Invitational, where Irvine will emcee a one-day culinary competition and trade show that introduces ways to cook healthy and affordable meals. Chefs from 10 Gold Apple-award winning hospitals and their teams will compete as they demonstrate how to convert recipes into healthier versions without sacrificing the taste.
Teams will represent the following hospitals: Baptist Easley Hospital, Beaufort Memorial Hospital, Georgetown Hospital System, Laurens County Health Care System, Oconee Medical Center, Palmetto Health, Piedmont Medical Center, Providence Hospital, Providence Hospital Northeast, and the Medical University of South Carolina. The event is being held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. July 26 at the Culinary Institute of Charleston at Trident Technical College. Along with the competition, there will be educational sessions and vendors.
