The beer just keeps flowing. But sometimes it requires some capital to keep up with demand. As COAST plans for their own much-needed expansion at their brewery in North Charleston, Palmetto has done some expanding of its own.
As the first brewery in the state since Prohibition, established in 1993, Palmetto has long been producing at their capacity of 4,000 barrels per year at their Huger Street facility. An addition of three fermentation tanks will double capacity to 8,000 barrels per year.
“This expansion will also allow us to make different beers and add to our current line up,” adds Winn.
The tanks, shipped from a manufacturing facility in Portland, Oregon, were installed — via a crane through the roof — and integrated this past week. Stop by the brewery for a tour. They are open to the public every Wed. and Fri. afternoon from 3-5 p.m.
