City Grit to cook it up at the Butcher & Bee

Sarah Simmons has established herself as a quintessential hostess and accomplished chef, throwing dinner parties in New York City at City Grit, her venue that's become known as sort of an off-Broadway James Beard House. Each night a different menu is offered, from a Southern Shabbat to a fish fry to an authentic Lowcountry lineup cooked with Sean Brock and his Chef de Cuisine Jeremiah Langhorne from McCrady's.

The native Southerner returned South for Charleston Wine +Food Festival to cook at the New + Notables Dinner that featured a roster of hot shot young chefs. Her dish was shrimp and grits with an Asian flair.

You might see that dish again in April, when she brings City Grit to Butcher & Bee. For this special event, she's recreating the "Obanzai Omakase," a Japanese tapas tasting menu she recently prepared for a sold-out dining room in New York City. Expect the food to have Southern soul and an Asian twist.

The dinner is April 11 with two seatings, 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Beer and wine will be available for purchase and tickets are $70. Visit citygritnyc.com to purchase tickets.
