Text your favorite Instagram picture (or any picture for that matter) and have it printed on small truffles, chocolate bars, or even chocolate lollipops. How’s that for taking digital photography to a ridiculous new level? Tasty Image is a new custom chocolate and gift shop in Mt. Pleasant that prints edible, high-resolution images on chocolate.

The company has been around since 2003, but the Mt. Pleasant store is the first franchise to open in the United States. Owners Arpan and Neha Kotecha jumped on the opportunity to introduce the idea to this area.

Opening so close to Valentine’s Day isn’t a coincidence, either. They hope to attract plenty of eager boyfriends. “We’ve got a very unique and exclusive product that no one in the area can offer right now,” says Arpan. “I hope the guys take advantage of being the first to give a gift like this to the special person in their life.”

The chocolate printing technology is also mobile. Tasty Image can set up a chocolate photo booth at wedding receptions and birthday parties, take photos at the event, and then print those images onto chocolates for guests to hand out. “At the end of the night, the bride and groom get to keep all the photos, so everyone gets to remember the special event,” says Arpan.

They also offer Fun-Do, a spin on fondue that includes 12 dipping items like fresh strawberries, pineapples, Rice Krispy treats, and marshmallows. After you’ve selected your dessert items, says Arpan, “you just pour warm, melted milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, or caramel on it.”

The store celebrates its grand opening on Thurs. Jan. 31. Aside from copious amounts of chocolate, the party will feature the Magic Cheese food truck, face painting for kids, chocolate giveaways, and an opportunity to win an iPad.

Regular hours for the shop and fondue bar are Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m.; Friday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m., and Sunday, noon-7 p.m.
