Chefs raise money for Hurricane Sandy relief

The devastation of Hurricane Sandy has rippled through the busineses of New York City, and our own chefs are rallying to raise money for their compadres in the boroughs of New York. Helmed by Chef Kevin Johnson of the Grocery, the Boroughs Helping Boroughs Dinner will bring together Mike Lata of the Ordinary, Josh Keeler of Two Boroughs Larder, John Ondo of Lana Restaurant, Ken Vedrinski of Trattoria Lucca, Robert Stehling of Hominy Grill, Bill Bowich and David Bouffard of Sugar, and Lauren Mitterer of WildFlour Pastry. Expect course after delicious course, with 100 percent of the $150 ticket will be going to Hurricane Sandy relief. The dinner will be held Mon. Dec. 3 at The Grocery.

Chef Sean Brock will be in New York on Dec. 3, taking part in New York Food Flood's first fundraising dinner. Organized by chef/owner Marco Canora of Hearth, the organization aims to feed people in need in the Hurricane's aftermath.

The following night in New York, Brock will be appearing at City Grit, Sarah Simmons' s Culinary Salon, for a Charleston Wine + Food sneak preview dinner that also features McCrady's Chef de Cuisine Jeremiah Langhorne and April Bloomfield of New York's Spotted Pig. The W+F crew will be heading up there and exec. director Angel Postell tells us they've decided to donate the $2,000 to City Grit along with any proceeds they get from raffling off tickets and prizes, since City Grit has been badly affected by the storm.
