Charlie's Grocery expands falafel empire to Spring Street

Growlers, a deli, and more coming soon

Charlie's Grocery is one of those family-run, quick-stop convenient stores that adds character to a neighborhood. The original Charlie's has held its post on the corner of Jasper and Radcliffe for over 16 years and is known for its awesome falafel.

Four weeks ago, the Dabit family opened up a second location on Spring Street. We had set goals as a family to continue to grow, says Abe Dabit, one of Charlie Dabit's two sons who will take responsibility for the new store. At our current location, size was an issue and so we decided to take our chances on a new location.

Some of the future services the grocery plans to incorporate include a deli and a growler station. This appeal to beer fans is one way that Charlie's is updating their offerings in line with local trends.

Growlers are a popular and more efficient way of serving beer for people who like to try new drafts, says Dabit. However, these new services are contingent on the success of the new location. Things seem to bode well though, as Dabit says the first weeks of business have been going well.

Of course, the full array of beer, wine, groceries, and other household goods are still offered. Nestled in next to Octobachi, the new Charlie's is located on 119 Spring Street and even offers parking. The grocery is open 9 a.m. to 11 p.m Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. until 9 p.m Sunday.
