Artist  and teacher Charles Williams is serious about teaching his students, so serious that he's been working with eight of them on a show that will be exhibited at Robert Lange Studios.

Williams co-founded the C.E. Williams Collaborative as a way to mentor talented young artists and give them insight into both the technical and business side of art. Having exhibits is a big part of his lesson plan.

"I want to get exposure for the students," he says, "and for them to gain experience in being part of a professional exhibition."

The eight young artists from Charleston and Georgetown who were chosen for this project have been working intensely for the last couple months on two still-lifes, or as Williams puts it, "Close observations of their favorite subject matter."

Their work will be unveiled at Robert Lange Studios on Sat. Jan. 11 from 5-8 p.m. and will be available for purchase. The show will stay up for about a week, so if you're interested in seeing what these local talents are up to, or maybe you have a young talent you'd like to connect with Williams, stop by 2 Queen St. on Saturday for the opening.

Williams is currently accepting students for private lessons in his Redux studio, where he helps them put together portfolios and hone their skills (full disclosure: he worked with my daughter over the last year, and she was recently accepted into School of the Arts. In other words, we endorse his skills.).
