Every three years, the American Institute of Architects-Charleston hosts their AIA Charleston awards. 2013 was one of those years, and awards were announced on Nov. 16, with three firms and one architect taking home all nine awards.

Liollio Architects won big, earning both Honor and Merit Awards for their design of the St. Helena Library at Penn Center on St. Helena Island, their preservation to the U.S. Custom House downtown, and LIGHTscapes Charleston. Thomas & Denzinger Architects was awarded two Honor Awards for Design for North Charleston’s Center for Art and Academics and Ridgeville’s the Windmill Pavilion. Finally, McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture won for the Mixson Bath and Racquet Club and the addition to the Cooper School in West Ashley. Architect Chris Bonner was recognized with a Merit Award for his unbuilt project RE:NEW Corner.
