has named the Charleston Farmers Market the “Best Outdoor Event” for four consecutive years. The next season will mark the market's 25th year running.
Every year the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs issues a call to local artists to submit poster designs for the following year's market. “By using art from a local artist to represent that Charleston Farmers Market, we can tie in the art component with the local food component,” says Scott Watson, the director of the Office of Cultural Affairs, "The live music as well as locally made crafts and locally grown food make the market the place to be on Saturday morning.” The suggested theme for this year's poster design is "Community."
Works in all 2D media are eligible, and the poster must not include the words Charleston Farmers Market anywhere in the design. Submissions must also have not been previously exhibited in any other City of Charleston program. See the rest of the guidelines on the poster competition application
If you’d like to submit your art for consideration, fill out the application form on the Charleston Farmers Market website
. The application, along with your design, must be hand-delivered to the Office of Cultural Affairs, 180 Meeting St., Suite 200, between 12 and 1 p.m. on Thurs. Dec. 19, and picked up between 3 and 4 p.m. that same day. The winning artist will be notified by Dec. 23.
