Lt. Dan — as in Forrest Gump
's Lt. Dan — needs Charleston’s help. Gary Sinise’s charity event, the Lt. Dan Weekend, could be canceled due to poor ticket sales. The event — now in its fourth year — needs to sell 15,000 tickets but has sold only 220 to date. The weekend benefits the Independence Fund
, which provides “tools, therapies, and guidance” to severely injured Veterans.
The weekend marks the end of a week-long retreat for these veterans who spend time with other wounded veterans, play sports, fish, horseback ride, and other activities. The week ends with a party at Brittlebank Park, a 5K walk or run, and a concert featuring Sinise and the Lt. Dan band.
Tickets are selling for $20 or $50 for VIP, which includes access to the Pearson Lounge, catering, and four full-service cash bars. Tickets may be purchased here
