Charity Event in Danger of Being Canceled

Poor ticket sales could stop Lt. Dan from visiting Charleston

Lt. Dan — as in Forrest Gump's Lt. Dan — needs Charleston’s help. Gary Sinise’s charity event, the Lt. Dan Weekend, could be canceled due to poor ticket sales. The event — now in its fourth year — needs to sell 15,000 tickets but has sold only 220 to date. The weekend benefits the Independence Fund, which provides “tools, therapies, and guidance” to severely injured Veterans. The weekend marks the end of a week-long retreat for these veterans who spend time with other wounded veterans, play sports, fish, horseback ride, and other activities. The week ends with a party at Brittlebank Park, a 5K walk or run, and a concert featuring Sinise and the Lt. Dan band. Tickets are selling for $20 or $50 for VIP, which includes access to the Pearson Lounge, catering, and four full-service cash bars. Tickets may be purchased here.
